I have been doing more carving work of late and decided to try my hand at making a Blow-Fish style of shape. I started out with a cross cut block with promising grain and was not disappointed. Carving this pipe took several days using mostly rotary burrs, hand files, and sanding cloth wrapped around wooden rods. This pipe exhibits gorgeous birds eye grain on each side. The recessed pink "gills" were carefully textured with a pencil blaster and reveals the blasted birds eye wonderfully. The tail "fin" is hand cut from large diameter yellow Cumberland rod. I like to make pipes that are whimsical in design and shapes that don't follow the norm, and I think this Blow Fish meets that criteria.
